Have your say on the draft Torbay Climate Emergency Action Plan
It has been predicted that due to the climate change, over the next 100 years we will see the sea level rise in Torbay by over one metre.
The science is clear: we are in a climate emergency and globally we need to rapidly reduce carbon emissions if we are to minimise the chances of catastrophic environmental damage occurring due to the effects of climate change.
Torbay needs to play it's part in reducing climate change. In 2021 the Torbay Climate Partnership formed and is working together towards a Carbon Neutral Torbay by 2030.
A series of Climate Conversation events with specific stakeholders (around housing, transport, energy, nature based solutions, and waste) were held from May-July 2022 before a wider community climate conversation in July 2022 where feedback, suggestions and ideas were gathered. A separate event was held specifically for young people and there was also a survey for local businesses.
The Climate Partnership has gone through the suggestions, taken advice from climate scientists and put together the draft Torbay Climate Emergency Action Plan to set out how we can reduce Torbay’s carbon emissions over the next 2 years and work towards carbon neutrality by 2030.
The Torbay Climate Emergency Action Plan can be downloaded using the link on the right hand side of this webpage.
The Plan includes actions such as; electric vehicle charging points, new cycling infrastructure, protection of sea grasses, retrofitting homes and building new net-zero homes. Lots of these local actions will have many co-benefits and will help us live healthier lifestyles and create a thriving local economy.
Please take part in our survey below, where you can tell us what you think about the Torbay Climate Emergency Action Plan. The survey can also be downloaded as a word document on the right hand side of this page. The consultation will run from 14 December to 03 February 2023.
